So the Indiana-Kentucky series is coming to an end
temporarily anyways. Kentucky wanted to play at neutral sites (in Louisville and Indianapolis but in Louisville the game would be in Freedom Hall which is old, the Yum! Center wouldn’t be available), Indiana wanted to continue playing on campus.
Kentucky says it’s because they only got 100 tickets at Assembly Hall this year and neutral sites 50-50 is more fair. But the only reason they got 100 tickets this year was because THEY gave IU only 100 for Rupp LAST year.
My theory? Cal doesn’t want to lose at Rupp (he’s never done it) and he knows that with this Indiana team and the recruits coming in (they call themselves “The Movement”), there is a legitimate chance that he could lose, and he doesn’t want that.
Kentucky are the national champs, they shouldn’t be running from a fight, they should be embracing this. You want to defend your title? Play the best teams in the nation. Ine just a few months they have ended their series with IU and UNC. But here’s the thing: IU doesn’t need Kentucky. Not anymore. They play in the Big Ten, their strength of schedule is already tougher than UK’s on that ALONE. And now that IU is back, the game against Kentucky would be great, but it’s not needed.
IU will play Kansas in a home-and-home series for the next two seasons and they will be fine.
Kentucky will stay undefeated at home, because they’re chicken.
